Raving Reviews

Review of A Shadow on the Glass by Ian Irvine

Review by Georgia, aged 12, from Australia.   Rating: Brilliant.

Tell us what you thought of the story.
I'm only a third of the way through and I'm hooked. I will definitely read the next three in this series and the next series which concerns some of the same and more characters living in the same world(s). Ian Irvine is a beautiful author. his words make clear pictures in my mind and I know what's happening but it's also unpredictable. For those who like magic (not necessarily waving magic wands about and casting spells) this is definitely for you!!!!!! Gosh I love it! I can't believe how he wrote this book. My friend has almost finished the first series which ends with the book 'the way between the worlds' and says that there's sad bits and funny bits and scary bits and happy bits too! What more could you want? You have to trust me ..... this is a wonderful book! Christ you have nnoooo idea! I laugh at so many things in books - and cry so easily ... books are everything to me - my escape - paradise ... and noone could have made my paradise more enjoyable than this! Go to your library and get it out .................... NOW. You'll love me for it - i know!

(~by the way it is quite , muddling at the beginning but read the first chapter twice then carry on it will work itself out for you. perfect for someone waiting for a book to open their eyes!~)

Favourite character and why?
There are two main charcters so far Llian (I say lee-an but my friend says lin-ee-an ... your choice) and Karan (I say ka- ren but i think it's meant to be kaar- ran) and both are lovabe. thy are in some was the typical main character - encounter near death and are occasionally the centre of attention - have wonderful goals etc. but Ian twists a few things and makes these people unforgettable. And you get to decide who you trust in books as well ... some of the bad people aren't that bad when you meet them! READ IT PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Who will the book appeal to most and why?
EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually you probably wouldn't understand it if you were say under 11 or 12.... but even adults won't be able to put it down! If you've read this far and you like mysterious things, magical happenings (the secret art it happens to be in these books) then read this nooooow. It's a but big but perfect!

Would you recommend the book and why?
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES Why wouldn't I? it's great! You should read it too! Rebecca introduced me to it and we are both trying to get Tilda to start too!

Could any improvements be made and how?
No. Well I guess ....... maybe? He shouldn't make it so good! I know it sounds lame but i never want to put it down at bedtime! Crikey it's mesmerizing! These people going on quests and trying to catch other people and re-stealing their ancestors things from other human civilizations etc etc ..... it just all fits! I think he did it so well!
