Here are his tips on how to write a great play...

How do you get started?

I began writing plays when I was fourteen years old - I was a member of a drama group at school and enjoyed, ‘making stuff up’. I then trained as an actor but started to write for the other students and discovered that that was where my real interest lay. I joined a Theatre in Education group as an actor but by the end of the year was writing for them and thus I wrote my first professional play in 1978/9. After that I became resident writer at Theatre Centre and my career as a writer began proper.
