Claudia , aged 11, from Ireland says: I saw in this (Tell us) section that someone said that there is a notice saying that SFW is going to be for members only soon. Where can I find this notice and read it for myself? Thanks.
SFW replies:
Hi Claudia,
The notice is on the main home page of Stories from the Web.
Shannon, aged 13, from England says: Hi I love this website-I've reviewed tons of books here and I found some interesting games and votings and I also enjoy reading other peoples reviews! I love this website!
Cara, aged 15, from Richmond, Virginia, USA says: I'm sorry, but I saw the message when I came on this site, and I'm really upset that soon it's going to be for members only. How can I become a member if I don't live in England?
SftW replies: Hi Cara, thanks for your message. You will be able to subscribe to Stories from the Web even if you don't live in England! Anyone who wants to know more can email us for more details
Abby, aged 15, from Telford, England says: Hi Stories From The Web,
My name is Abby Howard and I am 15 which I know is too old for your website but I wanted to make an announcment.
I have written a novel and it is called A Teardrop of Love. Last year I contacted a publisher in Milton Keynes and my book was released on 12th Janurary 2010! It's available to buy on Amazon and in the shops and everything now.
That's all really,
Abby
Stories from the Web replies
Well done Abby that is really great news. We all hope the book is successful – keep writing! Remember we will still include stories from you up to the age of 19 so you can still put your work on Stories from the Web.
Cara, aged 15, from Richmond, Virginia, USA says: Hi SFW,
I was wondering if you could make another site for ages 15 and older, because I'm sure there are a lot of us that still love this site but can't enter any of the contests or anything. I really love this site!
Amy , aged 11, from Falkirk, Scotland says: Hello SFW!
Amy here.
I love this site but my favourite thing is the "discussions area". It is really interactive and isn't at all dangerous in anyway and the people who send things are nice they don't send inapropriate things and just stick with the subject.
I have an idea for your site and I would like you to think about it : Have a SFW poem, story, review of the week just a person for each one. No prizes just a nice way to say that you are the winner and like this site called "Mathletics" You could design your own character and enter yourself in the competitions with stories poems etc So please think about it and reply back to see if my suggestion is going to be taken forward.
Thank You
From Amy SftW replies:
Hi Amy, thanks for your message. We are planning to do something simillar to your suggestion for our new 11-14 site! We think that there are some brilliant pieces of work sent in to SftW so we are looking at ways of choosing our favorite pieces and showcasing them. Our new site should be going live at the end of March, so keep watching!
Jessica, aged 12, from Burlington, Canada says: Hi SFW!!
I love your site! I found out about it at a summer camp I went to, all about meeting authors and writing styles and tips. They gave us a letter home with a list of websites that publish kids' writing. I liked the other sites but I prefer SFW because of the clear layout and how easy it is to not only view my own stories, but also everyone else's. I really want to be an author when I grow up, and I like to think of this as the first step. Do you have any tips of which publishers might be good to look into when it comes to publishing? Thanks!
SFW replies:
Hi Jessica
Thanks for your feedback. We're glad you enjoy our website. In the Author Interviews you will find they talk about how difficult they found it to get published. Please have a look here for a bit more information on getting published.
Hope this helps
SFW
Eleanor , aged 12, from Leicestershire, England says: I love the library and reading!!! I'm really glad that there's a library close to where I live now !!
Just wanted to say thanks!!
Arianne, aged 12, from Ireland says: HI SFW!
I use this website LOADS and want to say thank you for accepting all my stories. I know I send in a lot of them!
Thanks to Stories from the Web I have begun thinking seriously about getting published, and I have already sent in a story to an online magazine called You-Tale - and they gave me a prize! I know this may seem small but it made me feel like I was actually getting somewhere after writing so much.
I am really grateful to you all for reading my stories and deeming them good enough to put in the Gallery, even though I know some of them were kind of stupid!
Thanks again!
Yours,
Arianne
Rhian, aged 11, from Hove, England says: I think it's brilliant! My favourite bit is the Writer's Forum!
Niamh , aged 12, from Dublin, Ireland says: I love reading but only true stories about history like a book about Black History and World War 2 and the Irish Rebelion. Do you have any recomends of any books? If you do please write back and I will check this page in maybe three weeks or even 2.
Stories from the Web replies:
Hi Niamh, It is great to hear that you enjoy reading. Most of the books we have on the site are fiction. The best thing to do is drop down to your local library and ask them about non-fiction books. I'm sure they will be able to recommend loads that will be informative and entertaining.
Isabel, aged 7, from unknown says: How do you sign up?
Stories from the Web replies:
Hi Isabel, you can find out what being a member of Stories from the Web means on our Get Involved section. Here there are also links to libraries who subscribe to SFW. If they are part of SFW then just go into your local library and ask for your username and password! It's that easy!
Amy, aged 11, from Falkirk, Scotland says: I love this site so much and I have only just started blogging on it but I just can't seem to find the part of the site where you can make your own art work and post it in...Can you help me?
Stories from the Web replies:
Hi Amy,
We are looking at making an online 'drawing' section for the 11-14 area when we redesign it next year. At the moment there is an online drawing package on the 7-11 area which you could use.
Hope this helps a little.
Amy, aged 11, from Falkirk, Scotland says: I think that stories from the web is really good because you can do all sorts of things on it, meet new people, play games, learn and of coarse have fun.
To me, it's like a kid's blog site.
Jacob, aged 9, from California, U.S.A. says: When will the next competition be out? And what will the competition be?
SftW replies:
We have a competition out now! It is called Escape from Shadow Island and the prize is a copy of Paul Adam's exciting new book, also called 'Escape from Shadow Island.'
You can get to the competition by clicking the 'Join in' portcullis on the opening page of SftW 7-11.
Good Luck!
Cara, aged 14, from RIchmond, Virginia, USA says: I really like this site, but I resent the fact that there are a lot of things you can't do unless you're a member. And I would become a member if I could, but you can only be one if you live in England. I was wondering if you could maybe change this, or at least not put so many things on here that only members can do. Thank you.
a writer, aged 11, from England says: Hey stories from the web. I have a problem with the fact that all my good stories are right at the back of the list and no one ever reads them. I am guessing that this is because they only read stories on the first page.
I would only bother to do that because the lists take ages to load up and now my stories are just forgotten. I noticed someone else had this problem and I think that a way to fix it is by dividing the stories into month categories so that we can easily access stories we wrote a while back. I realise that may be too hard for you to do, but I don't mind. Because a lot of people have been having problems recently.
I am prone to rambling a lot, so do you understand my problem??
Stories from the Web replies:
This is a good idea and we will be looking to change the 11-14 area of SFW in the future.
Saunved, aged I am 11 years old, from Mahe, Seychelles says: I did not find HARRY POTTER... to write a review on. Is this book available to write a review on?
SftW replies
Hi Saunved
You can review Harry Potter on our website, just click on Review It, from the left hand side of your screen, select Review a Book, and type in the title or just 'Harry Potter.'
We look forward to reading your review and thanks for question.
Becky, aged 12, from Martin,Tennessee, United States of America says: What's with the thing about religion? I mean, really, what's so bad about saying Christian things or Hindu things or Muslim things? Do you have something against religion? Are you a humanist or New Ager or something? Or do you just not want hurt people's feeling’s if they don't have religion? I'm just a teensy bit confused. Could you help me out here? I'd really appreciate it.
SftW replies:
Hi Becky, thanks for your message. Our editorial policy says that we will not display work that; "tries to influence readers towards a particular religious belief." That means that we won't put up work that is very obviously preaching that a particular religiin is right and others are wrong. However, we will put up work that mentions religion or that is about religious celebrations, such as Christmas or Eid. I hope this makes things clearer.
Tori, aged 14, from Martin, Tennessee, USA says: Okay, um, well I just wanted to say that SFW is completely awsome. There is NO other site on the web like it. And I just wanted to thank all the people who worked to put this site together. It takes true dedication to read all the writings we children send in. Also, I was just wondering -- could the next discussion be about free verse vs. rhyming poetry? It was just a thought.
Also, without this site many kids would never be able to express themselves in a postive healthy way. I would just like to address this. It is no little thing.
This site let my lil sis express her feelings when no one else would listen. THANK YOU.
ps. HARRY POTTER, ALEX RIDER, ARTIMUS FOWL, CHILDREN OF THE LAMP,THE FIRE WITHIN and THINGS NOT SEEN rule!(and always will don't you think?)
ALL BOOKS In GENERAL ROCK MY Socks Off!
SFW replies:
Hi Tori,
Thanks for your comments they are appreciated.
The last vote we had was about rhyming v. non-rhyming poetry. (Poetry should rhyme - if it doesn't it's a crime!)Have a look back at the discussion it was interesting.
