INTERNET SAFETY
Take a look at the tips below to help you enjoy your surfing session.
Who am I talking to online?
People can pretend to be anyone when they use the Internet. Never agree to meet anyone you have met through the web unless you talk to your parent/carer first.
Personal information
Information you put on the Internet can be read by everyone worldwide. Do not put your details on the Internet, this includes your full name, address, date of birth, home telephone number, mobile number, photograph of yourself or email unless you have permission from your parent/carer. Remember people could use your personal information to impersonate you.
Information on the Internet
There is a lot of quality information on the Internet however anybody can create a website. Sometimes this information may not be correct so check to see that the website has been created by experts in the field. Talk to an adult you trust if you are not sure.
Does it make you feel uncomfortable?
When you go onto a website or open an email you may sometimes find something different than you were expecting to see. If this happens close the site down straight away and tell a parent/carer or adult you trust. You are not responsible for this happening and you will not get into trouble.
Cyber Bullying
If someone sends you a message that you don’t like, do not reply. Show an adult if it makes you upset and if they continue to send this type of message let your Internet Service Provider or the police know so that they can take the necessary action to stop this happening.
